How To Create Washed Out Old Aged Brick Wall.

This Photoshop tutorial assumes that you have working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop basic functions. Created using Photoshop 7.0, should work fine with CS.

I made this for a friend of my while ago, when he needed a brick wall for a video game backdrop texture. This is an easy and fast way to create a brick wall, especially when you don't have time to go take a digital photo, and it raining. Like here in Seattle (always).

Open Photoshop. Create a new Project >Image Size>Width: 768 Pixels, Height: 576 Pixels, Resolution: 75 dpi (not recommended for print.)

In the Tool Bar>Filter>Render>Difference Clouds.

Choose Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen Edges.

Filter>Stylize>Find Edges.

Filter>Stylize>Glowing Edges. Edge Width: 14, Edge Brightness: 20, Smoothness 3.

Filter>Stylize>Wind.

In the Wind palette, Method: Stagger, Direction: Left to Right.

Hit OK or hit the dame bloody Okay.

Image>Rotate Canvas>90 CW (rotate the image fig 3 so that all the edges are facing upwards.)

Choose Filter>Texture>Texturiser

Texture: Brick, Scaling: 200, Relief: 27, Light Direction: Bottom Right, select invert. Hit OK.

This is will give a nice Desaturated brick layout.

Now its time to change the color.

Choose Image>Adjustment>Curves.

In the Curves palette, Change the Channel: Red.

Move the curve line as shown or until you get the desired look you want.

Next choose Hue and Saturation. Play until you get the intensity of old and roughed look.

There you go. Easy washed out aged brick wall for you.

(I wish building a brick wall in real life would be that easy, hahahaha. the laugh. Have FUN.)
